This week we focused a lot on revising. We have been revising this thing called "creative Writing." Revising your own work is actually pretty hard. I thought revising my own work would be easier than trying to revise someone else but its not. When you are revising your own work sometimes it is harder to find the mistakes you have made, but when you are revising someone else's piece of writing you can find the mistakes easier. When I was revising my own creative writing I had to read through it a few times because I could't really find an mistakes in my writing. I have learned that revising can be

This past week I had become attached to a poem that we read. I read and found a deeper meaning for the poem itself. Matt Rasmussen's poem "Elegy in X parts" is a great piece of work about a friend committing suicide. The language and structure of the poem creates an emotional connection. As a reader of poetry when authors use line breaks it creates suspense in my mind. I read it with passion and emotion. Learning how to break down poetry and figure out deeper meanings to each piece really interests me because, I can turn any poem into something i relate to if i try hard enough. This week my participation was limited because of absences however, when I was there i loved hearing each poem and creating a story. I also was able to create a story from a painting. A simple painting with no story can be turned into anything you wish it to be. My group chose to break down "Christina's world" by Andrew Wyeth. This painting has dull colors and distance between the two subjects. The story I came up with is, that this young girl does not have a great relationship with her family when she longs to. She longs to be loved by her family, however when her father passes away she becomes more distant. She is reaching toward the house while she stays frozen in her pain and fears. She must have a fear of not being loved because of the way she is. She really longs to be a part of the family however she doesn't try hard enough to make her way toward them. To wrap up the week I was gone. So this next week I will be looking deeper and gaining greater understandings of pieces of writing. I hope to continue to learn great things that will help me in the future. docs.google.com/document/d/1_zFlMXrMtHECk0rXl4d2zEV63t2YedMevoGCejr8O9o/edit This week was a bit of a challenge for me. I had no idea about the summer reading assignments that had to be done. When he said "Get your summer reading books out" i was confused, because i wasn't here when it was assigned. This week i think what i learned the most was how to analyze a poem. Analyzing a poem is honestly not as complicated as it seems. Yes, there are terms and things you should look at and know, however the general idea is to just be imaginative and look deeper into the poem than the surface. When they say "Don't judge a book by it's cover", well it works like that with poetry. Something could be confusing at first read and sound ridiculous. However once you look deeper into the words and the lines. You can find things you didn't even know were there. Take the Eagle for example, by the title you thing right away that it is about an eagle. When I looked deeper into the poem i found that certain words gave it more of a human quality. "crooked hands", "wrinkled sea", and a couple of other words really makes it more. When i analyze this poem I see it more as a lonely man who sees the world around yet he is alone. If you want to look deeper into a poem then look into the words the author uses. There are a few things that I learned this past week however out of TP CASTT or anything else analyzing a poem stuck with me the most. I am a person who really likes to dig deeper and find a different meaning then whats on the surface. This week I learned about some routines that will help me with reading and writing. There are many reasons that routines are important. Routines help you figure all the things you can do in the time period you have. Routines are kind of like time management, you get the time and you can set ways and times to do certain things that need to be done. For me my reading rate is really important for a routine. Knowing my reading rate for a book can give me an idea of how much I have to read in order to finish the book. Many people just go ahead and read the book at their own leisure, however if you have to read a certain book for a class and you have to have a report done on it reading rate will help you manage your time. Process is important, you shouldn't just pick up a book and speed read through the entire thing and wing a report. The process will help you understand the book as a whole and each individual chapter as a piece. Reading is not made of just reading the words you once learned, it's about understanding each page and following the story. The story can keep you on edge if you focus on the small details that make it up. You can read the book and turn it into a movie in your mind, so you keep with the book. There are many ways that the book can keep you guessing. :) |
